Dear fellow KOCSEA members,
We are deeply saddened to announce that Dr. Se June Hong, IBM RSM Emeritus, one of KOCSEA Advisors, passed away on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, November 26, 2015, following a lengthy hospitalization for pneumonia. His contribution to Korean-American academic community was truly remarkable.
Dr. Hong was one of the founders of KOCSEA, a longtime KOCSEA advisor, a renowned Computer Scientist and Electrical Engineer, and an inventor. He received his BS in Electronic Engineering from Seoul National University in 1965, MS and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UIUC in 1967/69, and joined IBM after graduation. He retired from IBM in 2002, but for several years afterward continued on as a research staff member emeritus, working on data mining technology.
As one of KOCSEA founding members, he has been a great mentor for many KOCSEA members. We are shocked and truly saddened at the loss of Dr. Hong. He will be missed by many of us. Rest in peace.
With our deepest condolences,
Jeongkyu Lee, KOCSEA president
Eunjee Song, KOCSEA vice president
